Real estate magnate Larry Silverstein is the latest well-known figure to enter the race to get one of three coveted downstate New York casino licenses. The 92-year-old has never invested in or owned a casino, but he is the owner of a site four blocks from Times Square that he believes is perfect for such a project.

borders multiple neighborhoods without being central to one

This is because the location borders multiple neighborhoods without being central to one, which could mean fewer issues with local residents according to Silverstein’s team. He has partnered with Watche Manoukian, who owns the Parx Casino in Pennsylvania, to look after the gambling side of the project.

Larry Silverstein is a prominent New York City real estate magnate who was the man behind the redevelopment of the World Trade Center following the 9/11 terror attacks.

Talking to The New York Times on Thursday, Silverstein said that his proposal is largely selfless as the state needs major tax revenue to support the region’s transportation system upon which the New York City economy especially depends so heavily. As a major landlord, he has an investment in the city’s future.

There are expected to be about ten different proposals for the three casino licenses. They include pitches to develop a casino bedside the New York Mets’ ballpark, in Times Square, Hudson Yards, and Long Island.
